SUMMARY:ASAP Scrabble 101
DESCRIPTION:This Thanksgiving season students treated to a healthy serving of word games \nLast week\, ASAP brought together more than 90 Philadelphia K-4th graders for word games galore at the annual ASAP Scrabble 101 event. This year’s Scrabble 101 was presented by Wells Fargo and hosted at the Free Library of Philadelphia in the lovely Skyline room. Smiles and laughter filled the room as new Scrabble learners and word game enthusiasts challenged peers from schools throughout the city in games such as Site Word Bingo\, Scrabble SLAM\, Concentration and the Scrabble Crossword Game. \n“There is power in harnessing joy as a means to learning and development. The energy from the 90 City of Philadelphia students participating in the ASAP Scrabble 101 Tournament\, sponsored by Wells Fargo\, was absolutely contagious!”\n-Tiffany Tavarez\, Vice President\, Community Relations\, Wells Fargo \nStudents also got to hear from local\, Philadelphia author Staci Schwartz during an interactive\, puppet-themed read aloud! Staci is a physician\, author\, illustrator\, and bullying prevention education consultant\, and this year provided copies of her book “I’ve Got Your Back: Help Children Say Hello to Friends & Goodbye to Bullies.” \nEvents like Scrabble 101 are just one of the many ways ASAP works to empower youth both in the classroom and beyond. As organizations throughout the city seek to address the alarming number of young students not reading at grade level– led by the Read by 4th campaign— Scrabble 101 seeks to nurture a love of words\, while providing an opportunity for kids to just be kids— having fun with new friends. \nASAP is grateful to the support and generosity of\nASAP Scrabble 101 Presenting Sponsor\, Wells Fargo

SUMMARY:Support South Philly Scrabble duo at ASAP Game Night: Bregy Elementary School Scrabble Team
DESCRIPTION:As we approach ASAP’s first ever Game Night Fundraiser on April 2nd\, ASAP is profiling students and teams preparing to represent Philadelphia at upcoming Chess\, Debate & Scrabble National Championships. \nSupport South Philly Scrabble duo at ASAP Game Night: Bregy Elementary School Scrabble Team \nAfter going up against the best young wordsmiths at last year’s North American School Scrabble Championships\, Bregy School teammates Mindy and Trina are determined to make an impression. \n“I want to place in the top 5 or 10! But mostly\, I want to beat the students that we went against last year to show them how much we have improved.” -Trina\, 7th grade \nTo get ready\, Mindy and Trina have been studying and competing week in and week out as part of ASAP’s Scholastic Scrabble League. As their Bregy teammate Mario explains: “we play each other a lot to test our individual skills\, finding out our strengths and working on our weaknesses.” \nTheir hard work really paid off. This duo took home individual trophies and helped their school take 1st place at the ASAP Scrabble League Finals in February at the African American Museum. But for Mindy and Trina\, they know the real test will take place on April 18th when they go up against the best young Scrabble players from across the United States and Canada. \nYou can help other students like Mindy and Trina get to National Championships by purchasing a ticket or donating to the ASAP Game Night Fundraiser (April 2nd). Would love to support the cause\, but can’t make the event? \nGet your wish I could be there ticket here! \nGET YOUR TICKETS HERE: http://bit.ly/ASAP_GameNight \nMAKE YOUR DONATION HERE: http://bit.ly/ASAP_GameNight_Donate \nDonation Information: \nDonations can be made both leading up to the event and at the event itself via: \n\nCash or Check: made out to After School Activities Partnerships (Memo: Game Night); mailed to 1520 Locust St.\, Suite 1104\, Philadelphia\, PA 19102\nCredit/Debit: bit.ly/ASAP_GameNight_Donate\n\nClick here to see LIVE fundraising updates and make a donation! \nQUESTIONS: \nFor more information about the event\, how you can help or sponsorship opportunities please contact: \nASAP’s Communication & Development Coordinator\, Tori Bakey \n\nEMAIL: vbakey@phillyasap.org\nPHONE: 215-545-2727 x12
