ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships volunteers lead or assist in leading recreational activities –Scrabble, drama, debate, or chess - for kids in Philadelphia in schools, libraries, non-profits, or community centers.
Volunteers decide which of the four activities - chess, drama, debate or Scrabble - they are most interested in and we provide extensive training, assistance with background checks, supplies and support to prepare volunteers to lead or assist in leading their club.Volunteer orientations are held bi-monthly so potential volunteers can learn more information about how the process works and get aquainted with ASAP.
ASAP needs volunteers to help with after school activities for children so kids can stay engaged after the bell rings. The after school hours are the most dangerous for young people. This is the time when kids get into trouble and are victims—the greatest frequency of violence occurring 3-6 pm. With more than 60% of parents working outside the home, large numbers of youngsters are unsupervised 20 hours weekly. After school clubs provide safe, engaging and sustainable alternatives for Philadelphia youth.
ASAP also has one-time opportunities for volunteers! If you are interested in a one-time experience please indicate that on your form.
